Always best to seek out reviews by similar voices to the author. I am not that.
I enjoyed this story. I love memoirs read by the author, I feel it adds emotion that is missing otherwise. I didn't know Rapinoe was from Redding and I'm very familiar with that town so it was interesting to hear her talk about it. I also enjoyed hearing about her talk about the pay disparity and how that came together. It's always fun to get a look into public figure's lives.
Quick listen and I enjoyed it.

I'll read any memoir from a member of our Women's National Team; I'm so glad Rapinoe chose to share her story and experiences and reasons for making public and private choices that she did. I love that she says at the beginning that she felt a duty to speak up and stand up for certain injustices because she had a voice that was bigger and therefore would get listened to, and while maybe she wasn't the "perfect" person to call attention to racial issues, for example, limiting ourselves to speak only on those injustices that apply to us personally does the entire world a disservice and goes against the purpose of equality.
Also, the more personal stories we hear--successes and failures--the easier it becomes for people to be themselves.
But also, she kicks major butt, and learning how she came to be awesome makes it seem attainable for the rest of us.
Thanks, Erica for sending it to me.

As a queer woman, it is easy to root for Rapinoe. She is fierce and refuses to hide herself away. She is everything sixteen year old me would have wanted to look up to. This book, however, took me by surprise. I was prepared for an exposition on queer life and being out in the spotlight, but her passion for justice for all people is evident in this exquisite piece. She is the person I am excited for my children to look up to and see themselves represented.
