This starts with the Battle of New York, but goes back waaaaay back.
I liked that we got to see Alexander as a young angel (and also to see Caliane alongside him). This book was very much focused on the relationship of the main couple, while smaller or bigger things happened for the overarching plot. I am curious to see where the overaching plot is going.
But shout-out to Nalini Singh for becoming more and more inclusive in her writing. There was only a minor mention of an ace character, but it was a full paragraph. I really love her for not only being so open about her characters' heritages but now also becoming more and more inclusive regarding their relationships and sexualities.
