This is one of those books that is important for anyone to read, no matter who you are. If you share any of Johnson's experiences, this book shows you that you're not alone. If you don't, it's good to try your best to understand the struggles that the people around you may be facing, or how euphoric it can be to finally come to terms with an identity you've struggled with your whole life.

I will never know firsthand what Johnson went through, but I am still grateful that they shared their story.

The fact that this is the #2 Most Banned Book in America this year makes me ill.
I spent most of the book thinking… “why is this banned??”
But I realize that, similarly to “Gender Queer” by: Maia Kobabe, the reason this book is banned is because it speaks of something real.
I wish I had had this book when I was in High School and I am so glad that it remains in libraries, despite the pushback.

“Will this part of my story be met with pushback?
Absolutely. But I'll be damned if I don't tell it because of fear. My greatest fear is that queer teens will be left to trial and error in their sexual experience. It's worth me feeling a little embarrassed so that you all are a bit more prepared.”
