I had higher hopes for this one since I enjoyed The Widows of Malabar Hill about three years back. But it was agonizingly slow and honestly too confusing. There was so much of build up and it really felt like the story moved at the palaquin's pace.

I really missed the point about the Satapur Moonstone because it was barely mentioned. & even the plot twist just felt unfitting. The book ought to have been titled The Satapur Prince.

It's still worth a read but dont have any expectations.

I really like Perveen Mistry novels. They scratch the itch in my mind forged by years of reading Sherlock Holmes, Poirot, and Feluda novels, but with a female Indian protagonist (woohoo). Gotta give Sujata Massey massive praise for creating lovable characters like Perveen.

This book doesn't succeed in the brilliant way that Widows of Malabar Hill did, but is quite good. The prose is often quite simplistic, and the pacing is slow, more YA than adult, but the plot sings a classic mystery tune that I really enjoy. I will be reading the next ones (and waiting for Colin to turn up aaaah)!

This was another interesting mystery. It wasn’t quite as good as the first book, but there were still some interesting characters introduced that I quite enjoyed. A wee bit of romance too!!! Just a hint! The mystery didn’t go the way I though, but I really should’ve guessed honestly. Still a fun read.

Excellent. Parveen Mistry is a female lawyer in 1920's Bombay, a world most Westerners know little about. The setting is vividly described, the characters are well drawn and there is genuine suspense in the plot. This is the second of the splendid series and concerns a maharaja's family which is having a series of dangerous 'accidents' and Perveen is called in to investigate. Extremely enjoyable series and I look forward to future volumes.
