One of my favourite childhood classics! This story is poignant, humorous and heartfelt.
All characters are well-written, relatable and unforgettable. From Tom Oakley nursing his broken heart, to poor little William, bold Zack and all of the village residents, these characters will stay with you forever.
I still cry every time I read this and when I saw the musical a few years ago, it was a pleasant surprise.
A timeless classic that both kids (and adults) will love!

A lovely book. I watched the film version years ago and loved it. When I saw this book, in a charity shop, I thought why not. So glad I read it. An emotional read. Although primarily a children's book, i think adults can get a lot out of it too.

An absolute heartbreaker of a story. Not for the over-sensitive student. Maybe more suitable to year 7 and up.

This is me reading Good Night Mr Tom: "Well, this is all really nice and sweet, maybe even too sweet WHOA WHAT WAS THAT?!". I don't remember which books exactly I read in the tender age of 9-10 years, but they definitely did not include detailed descriptions of abused children and dead babies.
Nevertheless, I absolutely loved this book. Its perfect English village with perfect English people and perfect main character might seem a tad too much, but it's a children's book after all, so I'm fine with it. Even if almost everyone is too good to be true, I cared about them nonetheless, which is all that matters.
