Realistic, charming and humorous, Someone Else's Shoes by Jojo Moyes tells a story about four middle-aged women and the power of true friendship... and shoes!
Summary: Samantha "Sam" Kemp struggles with her depressed and employed husband, her angsty teenage daughter and her mean, ageist and sexist boss. She goes to the gym and accidentally leaves with the wrong bag, one that belongs to Nisha Cantor, the wife of a wealthy man. Or at least, that doesn't seem to be it anymore because her husband has suddenly cut her off, leaving her at a loss.

Review: I didn't know shoes could be so powerful until this book. The story touched on a lot of serious topics, namely depression and its impact on loved ones, emotional abuse in a marriage, cancer, single parenthood and finding oneself. The Louboutin shoes tie every major character in the story together.
Told through parallel storylines, namely Sam's and Nisha's, the book narrates the struggles of these two women and the people around them. The issues are so realistic, and I felt for the characters. Sam's storyline features her struggles as a middle-aged woman in a workplace and the wife of a man who suffers from depression. Her arc with Phil made me feel so bad for them. Depression is truly a monster clouding over people and the ones who love them. This book showed how tough depression can be on loved ones.
Nisha's storyline sheds light on toxic relationships, as someone suddenly tossed aside by her husband of 18 years. Carl absolutely pissed me off. I couldn't understand him, but the author explained everything towards the end of the book, which is simply amazing. I'm so proud of Nisha's character growth throughout the book. She went from a snob to someone who could stand on her own and live without luxuries.
The characters in this book are overall awesome, and the story is easy to follow, all the while touching on serious topics. The parallel storylines in the book intertwined seamlessly. I like how everything in the book is tied up neatly.
I recommend this book to readers who want to read a book about women and how they cope with various issues in their lives. This is a great book that's worth reading.
