FTC: Although this author has featured on the blog several times, I have no real relationship with her. This review was requested by the publicist for a fair and honest review.

This was a very sweet book that kept me entertained but never really hooked me in. I liked both of the characters but I hated pretty much every other person in the book; they were horrible individuals. Although the trope was second chance love, I felt that there wasn’t enough emotional focus on that particular plot. Things weren’t resolved, they were brushed under the carpet and then they picked up where they left off. It didn’t fit with the amount of hurt both professed to have at the start of the tale. I really enjoyed the world that Ms Braemel created (cowboys?? Come on, you know me :D) and there is every chance that I will pick up the next one.

The romance itself was very cute. They were very good together and I liked the way that they dealt with all the issues with the land. I believed in them as a couple but I did get more than a little bit annoyed with the does he/doesn’t he love me nonsense; they kept stating that this was a more adult relationship than they had before but they never could seem to talk to each other about their feelings. I felt that more emotional angst was spent on this aspect than the hurt and betrayal of the relationship before.

As I stated earlier, I really did dislike the majority of the other players in this tale. The Grandmother, both of their Fathers and his Mother?? All terrible people. The person claiming that he had part of the land? Horrible person. Ms Braemel did a very good job because I’m pretty sure that I was supposed to hate them immensely…. I liked only the brother and the romantic couple. It helped me engage with the story more, really routing for the HEA. I wanted to know what the secret was and, to be honest, I was actually quite surprised with the twists that came out. It was fun and these are the bits that will keep me reading this series.

Overall, if you like sweet cowboys with a bit of heat, this is one that could be for you. I liked the world building that Ms Braemel did and so will continue with this story.

***3.5 out of 5 stars***

This was my first book from Leah Braemel. I received a review copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

I enjoyed this book enough that I want to read the next book in the series. I really loved Ben and Allie both as individuals and as a couple. I did have a problem with Allie giving Ben mixed signals over and over when it was clear she still loved him. I understood because of their past her being somewhat hesitant, but really wanted her to let go of her issues a bit sooner.

I did like how Allie stepped in to help Ben and his family deal with the legal situation with his family's ranch. She went above and beyond her job duties to find the truth and was there for Ben every step of the way. When the truth came out about what had really happened when they were kids, I love that Ben was there for her completely, and really wasn't surprised in the least as to who was a part of the betrayal that kept them apart for so many years.

I look forward to reading the rest of the books in The Grady Legacy series and plan on looking into Ms. Braemel's back list for more books.
