This isn’t meant to be a feel-good book. You’ll have more questions coming out than going in. Dark, foreboding tragedy with elements of generational curses/trauma - a lot of film adaptations will interpret this as romantic when it’s not the main focus. Classic for a reason and I wish the author had not passed away so young.

Interesting reading experience for sure. I didn't understand everything at all, but I found the way the story was crafted and the writing to be the most interesting part of the story. I didn't care all that much for the characters and their storyline, I think what I liked most was the fact that it got me thinking about how and why stories were constructed back then, and what was the norm and what wasn't.
