i had a good time once i realized we weren’t on the fast track to Ableism Town (which i had some pretty intense concerns about when

DID got brought up as a possible diagnosis

, but it took painfully long (in my opinion) to have that clarified. i liked this, didn’t love it — i found it a little slow paced despite being as short as it is. that said, i’m definitely interested in seeing dewitt’s other work and think his command of character voice is very strong. the ending is giving “dread in my tummy for the next 40 years” vibes.

I wouldn’t recommend this for anyone who is sensitive to the demoralizing ways that people with no experience in the mental health field can speak about living with a mental illness. Several disorders are inaccurately portrayed and there’s not a lot of compassion for those who are institutionalized.

This book had immense potential. And then it absolutely shit the bed. I hated the ending found it quite ridiculous actually. Loved it so much up until the last few chapters. Beyond disappointed.
