I really wanted to LOVE this book. The characters, the found family, sexy-funny-bad-boy wants innocent, delicate flower girl, underworld crime ring, pseudo-stalking, I mean, I could go on.
It's all still really good. I enjoyed it. I didn't feel like DNF'ing, BUT I just felt like there could've been more or more done with what was given. IDK *sigh* this is what happens when I hyper-fixate on an author. It's kinda like when you haven't been to a Taco Bell in a year, and when you do finally go, it tastes amazing, but if you go back the following week, it's straight toilet fodder.
I'm trying to say that this book is still great; I will rec it to all my fellow sci-fi monster fckrs, and in the meantime, I'll take a break and come back refreshed.

I read this faster than I read the first book, I always like it when companion books use characters from each one to take to the other and I loved Arc, even from the first book. I can't wait to read the next one.

Definitely liked this one a lot better than the first book, but isn't that how most series go?
Arc was just a perfect alien boyfriend: touch her and die, super cinnamon roll, witty and charming, and not to mention his happy fun time toy was DEFINITELY alien ๐
I loved watching Sam grow throughout this book. She went from hyper-skittish and untrusting to learning she IS worthy of happiness and love despite her past. Which honestly resonates with me on a personal level.
Another amazing Tiffany Roberts book ๐

I saw a spoiler of some character art that would be featured on a future special edition book and knew that I had to read the story it was based on. While Shielded Heart by Tiffany Roberts is book 2 in the Infinite City series, this was the story that I started with. That being said, I understood everything without needing to go back and read book 1 first. Shielded Heart focuses on timid Samantha who has fled to The Infinite City to escape her ex and the arrogant alien whose past actions drag her into the dangerous underworld. Overall, this was a cute story with amazing characters and nice spicy scenes. I look forward to exploring this universe more.

I liked the story a lot but I also found myself distracted by life and other things, so it gets a couple less stars because it could not seem to compete well for my attention.
I LOVED Arc, he was funny and snarky and arrogant in a way that doesn't hurt anyone but is easy to make fun of. He was a really cool character. I liked that he made a little found family too, and he treated them all well and was friends with them and took care of them too. He was a cool dude and like I only saw green flags from him.
Sam was also really cool. I quite liked her, it was really nice to watch her grow into herself a little and watch her 'bloom' (Arc's nickname for her is "my flower"). I will admit that I was kinda sick of her whole 'I'm worthless' story line by the end of the book tho. It seems its a troupe for me that I just do not like much, she just came across a little whiny, and I hate saying that because he backstory was a sad one with an abusive ex, but like I don't really wanna hear about that when I'm reading a cool Sci-fi mafia romance, and like every time I thought she was over it she'd bring it up again, and I was like still?
Besides that she was great.
I also liked seeing some of the other characters that become the focus of the next books in the series. I will admit that the descriptions were kinda shit. Like from solely what was written in the book I could not tell you what a single one of them looked like or really tell them apart, even searching her insta for pics proved a little hard since I didn't really know the names, and some of them on insta don't seem to have the characters name attached. So I struggled a little.
Overall though its a good book, and I'll be reading the next one to finish off Arc and Sam's story, but I think I'll take a break before moving on with the series. I think this is the type of series that you can take a break from and come back to it later and still enjoy it.
