I really enjoyed the ride of this mammoth. I don't think Stephen King would call it a deep work, it's a roller coaster that whips you from one situation to the next, and it was tons of fun. This feels odd to say considering how dark and horribly tense the ride is at points but there it is.

Quite a few moments are harrowing and horrifying but you continue regardless. As with most of King's novels, it's all about the characters, the ordinary people, and the journey you as a reader go as opposed to the plot, of which the hook is great
and the finale less so. For what it's worth I liked the ending but can see why people would not. It's quite abrupt and could very well leave you thinking "oh, was that it?". Despite this, I loved my time with this story. I'm scared of big books but this felt like it flew by. It wasn't deep or overly meaningful in a big way, good themes are present, but the journey and the characters are what we're here for, and King is the master

Heads up: this one has frequent and graphic sexual assault scenes involving women and police. Not a surprise in a King novel, but it was more than I expected going into it

I really enjoyed reading this book. King's character development, espcially through dialog, shines here.
It's a page turner for 1,000 pages - which is impressive.
Beware - it's a heavy book! :-)

Not a plot spoiler below, but wanted to make sure folks opted in to see it by choice.
Spoilerbook is a great read but the ending was a let down for me after 1,000 pages. I'd give it a 4 to 4.5 for the first 900 pages and a 3 for the last 100.

This book is so gripping. Not for the faint of heart, but such a thrilling read. Intense inter-personal strife and characters that feel incredibly real.

One of the things I love about King's works, especially the later ones, is you never know what you're going to get. He has been boxed into the "horror" genre for things like "It" and "Pet Sematary" but I'm not sure if I could place Under the Dome there. If anything, I could be considered apocalyptic, albeit on a small scale.

This is a character study on steroids. Not just for the sheer volume of characters (around 100?!?!?) but the way the small town being trapped under an impentratable dome accelerated the paths each character was already on. The ultimate character crucible. Trapped in such a finite space, this work is also a commentary about how fast we are accelerating our own ending -- between emissions, thoughtless consumption of resources, and general disregard for an environment that is perhaps more fragile than would seem.
