I really liked this book. It's very different from the books I normally read (mostly modern fantasy), which was very refreshing. The pacing us different, too. It feels slow, but very focused. I liked that, too.

In A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K Le Guin, Ged enters wizard school and becomes a young boy with an innate ability in casting spells into a fully fledged wizard. However, he makes a big mistake and suffers the consequences.

He follows the shadow creature that he released across his known world and out to the edges of the open sea of Earthsea, in his attempt to correct his terrible mistake, regardless of what the cost will be.

This was an different read for me, as I am not a fan of reading fantasy books. I gave it 3 stars.

I only don't give this a 5 because I was a bit irritated by some of the inconsistent naming conventions/ unbelievable names. Otherwise, it's some of the best in the genre, which is especially amazing considering it's also seminal in the genre. Comforting, warm, and the language is beautiful.

It has been a really long time since I've read any fantasy book (it used to be my most read genre during my teenage years), so I started reading with very few expectations and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised.

I really liked Le Guin's writing style and worldbuilding. Most of all, I really appreciated how she subtly but effectively wove the different themes into the main character's coming of age story.

I look forward to slowly making my way through the entire series.
