~I received an e-arc from netgalley~
I really enjoyed this sequel! I especially enjoyed Sid's point of view I think it really helped develop her more as a character and you really got to see her side of things as well as learn more about her family and relationships. I also did like the dual point of view showing Nirrim's side as well and kind of showing what is going through her mind when she got sort of "changed". And then the other point of view being a "god" who we later find out who they actually are which is really interesting. I do think the ending was a bit rushed and I would have loved more time with Sid and Nirrim at the end, though.

My heart is swelling!

I must admit I was afraid at first to find out the sequel was written in first person rather than third like the Midnight Lie, but I was pleasantly surprised. The dwelve into both Sid and Nirrim's thoughts and turmoils—as well as the storytelling of the God of Lies—was absolutely marvelous. Sure, sometimes it felt as if there was no "true" plot to follow, but I did not mind one bit about it. The characters and their stories, the threads that weave their lives—it was rich and fantastical, full of grief and love and desperation. I cannot find the words to describe it any better. I could stay in this world for all of entirety!

3.7/5 I went straight from the first book in this series to this one, having loved the first. Unfortunately, I was not able to read through this one quite as fast as I felt like the complete change up in Nirrim’s personality made it quite hard to connect with her character like I did in the first book.

I felt like the majority of the book was just quite slow and the accounts on Nirrim’s part were just to demonstrate how she had lost her compassion while Sid’s story was a little predictable but served as an insight into more of the characters in her circle. I really enjoyed the input of the god’s chapters as it was nice to see it all add up and I liked how Sid journeyed to the gods at the end.

I feel like the end was so rushed compared to the rest of the book as we barely got to see the aftermath of everything. It was kind of like “Nirrim is saved!” and the book ended. I would’ve liked to see maybe an epilogue or some sort of interaction with Nirrim and her people or journeying to see where Sid came from. It doesn’t seem like there is going to be a third book as it didn’t really end on a cliffhanger and I can’t find any details on a third book so it would’ve been nice if a chapter was dedicated to that so that the story could have been rounded nicely.

All in all, it was a great book and a good sequel, but I feel like there could’ve been a little less time of them separated with not much happening and more time spent showing the aftermath.

Highly readable and enjoyable.
Although (whoops) I missed the memo that this was part 2 in a series of books, I still was immersed in the universe and got attached to the characters.
A solid work of fantasy - and yay for lesbian rep !
Now on to read the first part, lalala.
