4.5 stars. Definitely the best Grant County book so far! It kept me guessing until the very end. Didn’t get the full 5 stars bc I thought it could have been a bit shorter. But overall a great book and another one that brings so much humanity to Lena.

I really feel like this book developed in a way I never expected and I really liked it. From the beginning, I kept trying to guess who was responsible for all the horrific acts, but it was a really good twist at the end. Honestly, it was a little unexpected because there were zero hints or nods towards it until the last couple of chapters except for two brief moments in the beginning and middle of the book. I was thankful two characters I didn't really like were taken out (LITERALLY) as a result of it all. Overall, of the 3 books I've read in this series, this one is tied for #1 with Kisscut. 4.5/5 stars.

I have been very lukewarm on this series so far. As a huge fan of Karin Slaughter's standalones, which are all recent, it has been a change reading her Grant Count Series which were her very first books.

However, I am happy to say that I enjoyed the storyline of this book and it felt more up-to-par with what I want from Karin Slaughter.

I will say...that Lena still annoys the shit out of me and I intensely dislike her character. I was surprised, given how big of a role she had in this story, that it didn't cause me to hate the book. I really hope she gets her head out of her ass in future installments.
