The August pick for Read Christie 2023 with a method of a fall from a height.

This book is quite a novelty for Christie as it is a stand alone novel set in ancient Egypt. She had spent lots of time at archeological digs throughout the Middle East.

But really, when you look past the setting and character names, it is a country house mystery with a large, landed gentry family, and rivalries of inheritance when a young mistress is brought home.

Christie’s great analysis of personality and quirky traits make her characters wonderfully alive, but it felt quite forced in keeping all the (remaining) characters under suspicion.

I found this quite slow moving and it dragged quite a bit getting to the resolution.

Loved to read a detective set in ancient Egypt. The relationships between the people are fascinating and while reading you can really feel the oppressive and scary atmosphere in the house.
