Another fun installment in the On the Clock series. This one was an age gap romance which made the storyline really interesting. 3.5 Stars

Legal Tender focuses on Nakima and Cordell who are working together to investigate the sex tape that Star and Lennox made in the previous book. Nakima is the HR manager for the company while Cordell works as an attorney. It is clear from the beginning of the novel that the two have a strong attraction to each other; however, Cordell is young enough to be Nakima's son. Honestly, I really enjoyed their sexual chemistry. There was just enough angst there to keep me intrigued in where the story was going to go. However, one of the major hiccups was Nakima's character development. She was extremely annoying in some parts of the novel. I didn't like the way that she constantly compared Cordell to her sons; it made things awkward and I'm surprised that it didn't push Cordell away. I also wasn't a fan of the relationship that she had with her ex (he was married by the way). He was controlling and disrespectful for someone who was supposed to have a spouse of his own. Nevertheless, I really really enjoyed Cordell. He was fun, confident, and really respectful to Nakima. Even when she kept going hot and cold with him he never really gave up on her. Their steamy scenes were great. So while this wasn't my favorite couple in the series, I did enjoy the writing and it was nice to see an age gap romance.

Whew! I liked this older woman younger man scenario! It’s something about them Qs no matter the age lol! This was a fun time and the only annoying thing was Nakima not standing up for herself. I’m so glad she finally came around! Also it’s F her ex forever because he’s trash smh

I’m realizing I don’t care much for the age gap trope. But this one here Nakita just irked me. She came off like the young one and that was irritating.

The "On the Clock" stories are always fun. This was a May (him)/December (her) where she struggled with all her own apprehensions plus her sons and their father

Great story!

The On The Clock Series is a great series that I’d recommend. Legal Tender is book 5 in the series and it was great! Nakima was having issues getting over the fact that Cordell was 16 years younger than her. She rejected him so many times, but that didn’t stop Cordell. Nakima was mentally battling that stage when your kids are grown and out the house and you struggle to find yourself again because you were all into them. Dating again wasn’t on her new to do list. Of course, Nakima wanted Cordell, but she used his cockiness and age to fight the battle of her desires against him. Cordell didn’t care nothing about her age or the fact that he was close to her sons age as well. He was interested in her and his sole purpose was getting to know Nakima and making her happy. Which he eventually did, but her ex and sons created a huge barrier. Mama gotta have a life too, but they thought differently. I thought it was extremely selfish especially coming from her ex who was married

Hot and heavy on the young D! Baby Shae does not disappoint! I ain’t never been a fan of the older woman younger man trope but baby this gave what it was supposed to give! I’m obsessed with this series!
