helps me understand how deep the relationship between farley and shade went but still was an ok read.

I enjoyed the story, but I was confused for most of it trying to remember what happened and who characters were.

This left me wanting to read more about Farley! Really highlights Aveyard's writing style.

Honestly this hovered around a 1-2 star book.

The only redeeming nugget was learning about Shade.

I hated the military code. I tried deciphering the first one for about 5 minutes but then gave up. After that I mostly skimmed them without processing them. I can't seem to understand the lingo. :(

It was also interesting to learn Farley's name although not highly interesting. Honestly if this wasn't a BR I probably would have marked it as DNF and never read it. -.-

This was a lovely look at the inside of Farley, and I found myself swept away in the world of the Gaurd. I loved getting to see this side of Shade in his appearance as well, and I like that the novella works as a prequel from the other side, before the big things that happen to Mare in the first book of the series. I, also, love the dispatches.
