I realize this is autobiographical but there isn’t a shred of humility in it. It’s I I I all the time, and takes forever to get to anything resembling space flight.

There are better books out there.

Certainly interesting, but it came across as somewhat patronizing/condescending, and the author's ego is as concealed as a bloodstain on a white shirt. To be fair, the author has certainly earned that right, and I would rather not judge the quality of this book on the author's personal and character shortcomings, so I will say this:

The first half was riveting. Tons of information about space missions and NASA, etc. I took a year break right at the halfway mark and then finished the last half in about 3 hours of reading. Not sure how I did that as I remember the first half being a slow read. Anyway, by the second half the book becomes less focused on the mission and more on the man, which is why I personally became far less engaged.

The Kindle version with moving pictures etc. is kind of gimmicky, but it's a pretty cool gimmick. I wouldn't pay extra for it though.

Overall, I think it was still worth four stars since, apart from my long break in the middle, I never seriously lost interest in it.
*p.s.
Spoileryou can't talk about three g's like it's a lot and expect me to keep a straight face AND still respect your ego<\spoiler>

Amazing Life

Choppy writing in parts, but the mans life and exploits kept me going. He reminds me of the Victorian gentlemen explores like Scott and Hillary. Fascinating life.

Awesome book

This was an amazing book. I do not typically read a lot of nonfiction, but this book really makes me want to change that. I loved the fascinating look into an astronouts life, Scott climbing mountains and meeting John Glenn. I especially loved the Kindle in Motion aspect; all the pictures and the moving pictures were awesome. It really bought the whole story life. The quotes at the beginning of every chaper were a nice touch. This was such a great read, and such an uplifting book after the last book I read. Scott was so cheerful and full of life. He never gave up and I really admire that.

The stories told by Scott are just amazing. It’s incredible what an astronaut goes through in their training.
The most valuable thing I also learned was the idea of Third Culture Kids and being one how that affects my life. If you love aviation and space definitely read/listen to this book.

An autobiography by a talented and remarkable but ultimately self-absorbed man. It was interesting and exciting at the start but by the end I just felt sorry for his family who have had to put up with this blowhard's emotionally stunted behavior.
