Beautiful book, the imagery and magic of it all was stellar. I wanted to read it during a blizzard while listening to haunting classical music. It’s not 5 stars for me because the characters weren’t particularly compelling, and that’s what I value most in a book.

But I don’t think this book was meant to have super deep character development. I think it was meant to sweep you off your feet with magic, to parallel the experience of visiting Le Cirques de Rêves. And it does that excellently.

The Night Circus, and  Morgenstern's writing, never fails to amaze me. It's whimsical and enchanting. And it's hard to follow sometimes but that's the beauty of it: Not truly knowing the world she has created and leaving most of what we know as unknown. We are the ones being told the story, unfortunately we are not the ones witnessing it firsthand. I think of the story as an nice red apple being dipped in the night sky full of stars. Or popcorn with caramel sauce (Thank you Widget!!!!)

I loved it. I’ve been wanting this book for a while and I finished it in a week. The only thing that went wrong for me was that I noticed that some events were switched around when I was at the 86% mark I think. Anyone who is going to read, watch the dates on each chapter.

She's not like other girls... She can do magic!

Considering how popular this book is, I'm pretty disappointed. I didn't even have high expectations, but so many people, mutuals and friends; have read this and rated it highly, but I'm not sure what they like about it so much.

I didn't like the writing style. It felt clunky and contrived. For example, the lack of contractions felt like a cheesy way to write historical fiction. I thought the pacing was odd. The jumping back-and-forth in time didn't make sense to me because it felt like it rarely served the plot, it just made things confusing. I thought many of the characters were flat and boring. I didn't care much for the main characters, which became a big issue towards the end, which was the most disappointing part. I just didn't think this was written very well, and I also think it should have been shorter.

This is my favourite book ever. I love it every time I read it. I will never not fall in love with this book.

The story is gripping and the change between story lines and character perspectives is seamless and brilliant.

Always my go to recommendation
