i have mixed feelings about this. on the one end, i found the “final boss” a bit awkward—i know i should probably stop comparing the books to the tv series, but just thinking about how well originals were portrayed there and how insignificant old ones ended up being here makes me want to cry–laugh a little—but on the other, i really enjoyed the big plot twist right at the end.
i hadn't seen that coming, and i would be lying if i said i'm not even a tiny bit interested in finding out what this new enemy has in store for us. on the major character death—i sincerely don't know how to feel about that. i get that no one is ever safe here, not even the main characters, but this still felt odd to me. especially if it there will be no resolution for it, as i fear.
but, oh well. we'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it, i guess. i can't believe how long this series is, but most of all i can't believe i'm—at long last!—nearly done with it.
i never watched the series in its entirety either, and despite seeing some spoilers here and there throughout the years, i'm not sure where the books will end up leaving us...

I saw all the supposed plot twists in this book coming from a mile away. Nothing was surprising to me. And the character death was supposed to be super sad and emotional but I didn't feel anything. I was not sobbing like I was during the major death in Midnight and it's not just because I didn't care much for the character who died in this novel. It was because everything was written with a sense of detachment; the author did not put her heart into writing this death at all. Also, the funeral that followed was boring and everything the characters had to say about the deceased was a fabrication to make the dead guy look more heroic than he was. All in all the writing was subpar and the plot didn't hold my attention. I won't be rereading this mess in the future. Dehauled from my shelves. #UnseenSucked

So, I guess I like Aubrey’s writing a bit more than L.J’s apparently lol.
I couldn’t believe the ending, and I am convinced there will be some instance of coming back to life, as there always has seemed to be lol.
The plot twists were written better than the past’s, I think. I was convinced Jack was ill-intentioned somehow, but then I doubted myself, and then was shown I was right. I knew Meredith’s dreams were not just dreams. So while predictable as usual, I was still interested and even surprised sometimes.

It's hard to put into words how much I missed this world. And no, I'm not talking about the tv series, although that one is really awesome too, I'm talking about the world in the books. Where Damon can turn into a bird and fly. Where Matt Donovan is actually a point of view character and where Elena is a guardian angel with those amazing powers that go far beyond imagination.

Picking this book up and going through it as fast as I could felt like coming home. And the atmosphere set in the first book really screams for more. They've crafted this really interesting new storyline and now the pieces are somehow on the board I can't wait to see how this game will eventually play out.

And I have all my fingers, toes and everything crossed that Jessamine has good intentions, but we're talking about Matt Donovan, the guy who somehow always gets the bad end of the stick. I don't dare to hope too much right now.

I'll have to read a few other books first, but I can't wait to pick up the next novel!

When I started this book I was so full of happiness because they had almost 4 years of almost absolute peace. All of them. I loved hearing what had happened. Merediths marriage was really good too. But throughout the course of this book something was building up and of course, Stefan. I don't believe he is gone because how could he be?
I hate Jack and I am disgusted with his idea to create these so called vampires. Ah
