It started out interesting, but I'd say more than 1/2 of the book was the reading of an old Ian Flemming manuscript that was discovered in a safe deposit box. The longer the book went on the more difficult it was to keep up with the manuscript characters.

I kept listening mainly because I had a vehicle that didn't have a connection for my ipod and I needed to have some book to listen to. Can't say I would recommend this to anyone that doesn't have an interest in historical books.

Conspiracy theory? Heck yes. A book that fantasizes and hypothesizes the idea of what if a hidden manuscript by Ian Fleming contained some very incriminating information about some very powerful European rulers in the time of Hitler. This manuscript was put in a safety deposit box to be put in the hands of a third party some 50 years later and some rather desperate people realize this information might be a good bargaining chip. A lot of the book is reading through the manuscripts as a case file, but I liked that. I love historical fiction. The overall plot line of the book is rather shallow because it is so manuscript based, but it is a fascinating story.

Loved this book! Not a perfect story by any means, but riveting to be sure. I loved the story-within-a-story motif.

I really enjoyed this novel, however it was very confusing. There were many characters introduced but not really developed but I think that is part of the charm of a historical fiction while also using real characters.

Too many spies

Ian Fleming writes a long letter to an Amy Greenberg setting off a series of mysterious encounters, attempts at murder, stolen letters involving the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Churchill, Elizabeth II, Anthony Blunt art historian and spy, Hitler, among others. Why Amy? Why Ian Fleming. These are only the people who really lived. Then there are the fictional characters. Too many. No humor, no wit. It just tired me, but I'm sure Mitch Silver will come up with better mysteries. I will not give up on him yet.
