I liked the concept of the book and was impressed how engaging it was despite only being about a long walk. I wasn’t expecting it to have quite so much “horny teenager” energy but this does run throughout. Ending was quite underwhelming for me and left me a bit disappointed.

Wow, that was pretty intense. Probably the most relatable King novel I've read so far, having definitely pushed myself too far on various hikes and sightseeing tourist walks, so that I have certainly felt a pale shadow of the pains described so viscerally here. This book is amazingly well-written, and a true page turner. Character building is top notch. World building is minimal, since it's only revealed in little bits of conversation between the characters, but it's enough to get the picture. Hard to believe he wrote this as a teenager. Highly recommended.

Felt like a short story, which I mean as a compliment. So much of the world is hinted at while keeping the focus squarely on the protagonists. Left me wanting to read more stories set in this same world.
