This was a cute, quick little book, something I needed to get me out of a slump and get back into reading.Obviously I’m not the demographic for this, and I do prefer the movie (just as it’s longer and more flushed out), but I did still enjoy this book.
It’s funny that Mrs Fox’s only personality was being a cook, mother, and boasting about her husband, but then they clearly have love for each other so that was cute. Although, Mr Fox and Badger were low-key flirting with one another.
I also really liked the four small foxes, they were very cute and completely different to the movie, but I liked seeing their excitement, especially when the first one ran back to Mrs Fox with the three chickens, and all he could think about was how exited his mother would be.
I’m going to go watch the movie now.

I listened to the audiobook read by Chris O'Dowd. It was amusing and I would recommend this version as O'Dowd's voice interpretations of the characters add to the humour. Run time is only 1 hour and 20 minutes, and you can borrow it from the Far North District Council eLibrary.

I read this one to my class of Year 3s (7-8 years old) and they loved it! We’ve used this book as our topic for Literacy this half term and there’s lots of great drama and writing activities you can get out of it! For example, hot seating, diary entries, creating a fourth farmer for a character description and adding another chapter.
