This was charming in places, but overall it was hard work. I felt glad for Georgia and her coming out, but I struggle with yet another communication issue that made the book a slog at best at times.

Ask any of my friends what my least favorite genre is, and they will all say romance. Although I’m a huge nerd who loves a good love story, reads fanfiction, and is a pro at every romance trope, I’ve never been able to relate to it. And so, I’ve always felt like it wasn’t for me. And that’s because it’s not. It took me until my mid-20s for me to realize that I was asexual. For a long time I felt broken because of it and life would have been a lot less frustrating had i found out about asexuality earlier.
I can quite honestly say I’ve never seen my experience portrayed before in books/tv/movies and it was really touching for me. Her trying desperately to be “normal” and work through it because it’s better than being alone and her fear of being alone for the rest of her life are very real for me. But the overall theme of the book being that you don’t NEED romance to have true love in your life is so so important to me. The idea that you should put in the same effort with your friends that you love as if they were your significant other is something I’ve done for a long time and has been so healing for me.
This book was recommended by a dear friend and I’m so glad I read it.
4.5 stars. It’s a YA book so I did find it really fast to read and it wasn’t as dense as I usually prefer. But I truly loved it.

a book that reminds you that love is everywhere — in both friendships and relationships, in grabbing coffee for someone or getting flowers — and that life is a beautiful thing to allow us the chance to have it

This book went from a 4 star to a 3 star, and finally to a 2 star...all in the course of two days. I think at first I was just so excited to be reading a book that just mentioned anything on the Asexual spectrum (because that's how starved we are for some representation). But after finishing it, there were several things that just didn't sit right with me.

I've never been very good with words despite reading a lot, so I'll just let Maëlys review summarise it since it is one of the most coherent reviews that explains why this book should not be presented/marketed as THE aro/ace experience.

It’s an easy read and I got into it quite quickly, although I found it hard to relate to the characters even though I’m in the same situation as them. They seemed very stereotypical of each member of the LGBTQ+ community, so it would have been refreshing to see a maybe not so standard representation of ace people, as it came across that ace people prefer being alone and in their room and that going out clubbing is a destructive thing.
