As the name might tell, this book is about a little girl and her journey as she navigates the world without out sound, or at least the world with very uncontrollable, unhearable sound. While, yes, the characters all are illustrated to have animal ears, I found great meaning is a story that uses such child-like artistry to demonstrate such a meaningful story.

This book was soo adorable and thoughtful. I can see why my niece keeps reading it over and over. Not only is the main character lovable and relatable, but we see (through her POV) how she is often isolated by ableist culture. We also see how being different is a superpower! This book warmed my heart and gets all the stars!

This genre of graphic novels written by women about their own, autobiographical childhoods is truly awesome. (Like 'Smile' and 'Sisters' by Raina Telgemeier, and 'Real Friends' by Shannon Hale.) They capture perfectly the awkward themes of self-doubt, bad friendships we don't know how to get out of, and personality-defining moments. They help to open up conversations between me and my own daughter about similar happenings in her life, and to show her that she's not alone. I am loving reading them with her!
