Helpful, but perhaps could have taken his own note and made it 10% shorter. Overall sent me on a Stephen King kick that I am very glad I went on.

I can't. I had to read this three times for school, and although I'm sure it's interesting outside of that context, I find the tone of the book abrasive for students.

This book was way more helpful than I anticipated. A fantastic book that I will definitely read again in the future.

part memoir, part prescriptive, part pep talk. it's basically just like stephen king genially lecturing about his own story as both person and writer. his anecdote about remembering why your desk is in the corner of the room instead of the center is stuck in my brain forever. definitely keeping this on my short shelf of essentials as i try to do some writing of my own.
