I laughed, I cried, and I learned a few things

Highly recommend if you are a fan of King, memoirs, or an aspiring writing

I read it once, then read it again, pen in hand.
Not only is this a fantastic memoir, but regardless of where you’re at as a writer, this book has great advice from one of the most revered authors of our time.
I imagine that, if it weren’t for the profanity, this could be required reading for all English Language & Composition classes in high schools. But you know school boards: always a little afraid of our favorite four letter words.
Anyway, I loved it, and am very glad to have started 2024 reading this. I plan on getting back to writing this year, and who better to motivate you to write than the master of horror himself?

My lack of love for this book is definitely "it's not you, it's me" situation. I've never read a Stephen King fiction piece nor ever been interested in becoming a creative writer, let alone author. This wasn't the book for me, and that became clear pretty early on. Nonetheless, I can see it being interesting to King fans, and in that case I'd definitely recommend the audiobook. As for me, it was background noise that I tuned out while starting a puzzle — not exactly the attitude I love to have while reading a memoir.

If you want to write, read this book. It's probably one of the most valuable books you'll read on the subject. King is entertaining, down to earth, and realistic with his advice. It was also neat to learn more about him and his life!

This book was extremely informative and inspiring. It gave me the feeling I can write a novel, something I've always thought to be out of my league, and a general inspiration to go back to writing.
I'd recommend it to all aspiring writers, I didn't agree with all the points but it's a clear and concise in its directions, which leaves them open to reinterpretation.
The memoir sections were entertaining and moving, only the graphic descriptions of his injuries after the accident proved a bit too much for me.
I will very likely read it again when I feel like I need encouragement.
