The last two Katherine Center books I’ve read were about really strong women in unusual professions (a bodyguard and a firefighter). This one is the opposite. Sadie is a portrait artist who has a seizure and finds out she needs to have brain surgery. She also ends up facing the fact that she has always told everyone she is ok, no matter what happens, but she really hasn’t been since her mom died.
I love that Katherine Center’s books are a joy to read. They make me smile and laugh, and are often filled with kindness and unusual friendships, with just a little romance.
Loved a couple of the fun twists in this that I didn’t see coming.
“We see what we’re looking for.”
“I see you humanity.” Epilogue
“Which of your thoughts you’re going to choose to indulge in. Our thoughts create our emotions … art of self encouragement “ track 5
“If I could save one thing in a fire, … 100% those skates.” Track 13
“..Just enough hope to keep going. That’s the dark underbelly of hope that no one talks about…how it can skew your perspective.” Track 19
“Every real human interaction is made up of a million tiny pieces not a simple one note situation, a symphony of cues to read and decipher and evaluate and pay attention to.” Track 25
“In turning away from kindness, she had chosen a life of torment.” Track 28
