I think that the first half of the book was just...very dragging. I didn't find her family very interesting until she was transferred to the palace of the Pharoh and met all the other characters there. Before that, until she fell into the river and got the slave girl supposedly killed, I didn't see much worth in her. Afterwards though, the book took a turn for amazing and came off as incredibly funny and a great book for young readers. I loved it! I am so glad I decided to give this a try, and I'm hoping to read more of this author's work since it was a book so related with teenagerhood with a touch of cute romance and treacherous characters. I got very involved with the main characters and felt as if I knew them all or wanted to. There is a lot of girl-power here, something I never get tired of in ancient historical fiction! I can't wait to read this sequel!

I fell in love with this Friesner's writing style during her Helen of Troy series and this series didn't fail to disappoint.

Nefertiti loves her family. She's docile and obedient and is content with life. But her aunt Queen Tiye demands that she marry her son Thutmose to ensure that he'll become Pharoah.

Nefertiti's father negoititates new terms. She has three years before she'll marry him. Caught up by the treachery of court life Nefertiti finds that being obdient isn't as easy as she thought. She's forced to stand up for herself and dare to defy the odds.

Friesner blends history and fiction with unparallel skill. This book is a must-read for all fans of historical fiction and daring heroines.

I love Friesner's interpertation of history and look forward to reading the next book in this series as well as other books from this author.

This book is amazing! It kept me reading until the end (11:30 at night). Nefertiti is a very strong and independent heroine; she is the type that you will want to become. This book also has the excitement of a wanted criminal and a forbidden love. Esther Friesner really cannot top this book!

I was originally quite worried that this was a stand-alone novel, but luckily it's going to be followed up by at least one more, so I can forgive the ending. (Not that the ending was bad, but an epilogue would have been nice.) Overall, I liked it. The portrayal of Nefertiti as vaguely spoiled, was good. I'd like to see more of that. Also (and this isn't really a criticism of the book, just an observation in general), for once I'd like to read a historical fiction book with a plucky female protagonist who isn't literate. But maybe that's just me.
