I think the reason I couldn't fully enjoy this was because of the narrator was really great as one of the mc's but having the same narrator for both meant it was very hard to differentiate the characters.  I couldn't get invested in the characters and there mindsets until 60% of the way through the book and I think if there'd been two narrators, that could've happened sooner.

I had absolutely no idea that hunt saboteur was a thing so from that perspective, to see a little bit about something I had never heard of, even if this is fictionalized, was neat. Some of the word choices were notable in a bad way for me. The author used "cub" instead of "kit" for baby fox and that was weird. Also I know "fag" is a slang for cigarettes in the uk so it makes sense  for these characters to say but its so jarring and creates instinctive discomfort to hear it.

Beyond that, the descriptions were just a little clunky and awkward as if they were a first draft or not actually written for the context of the scene.  The Lucky/Cash friendship because that was one of the highlights for the book for me.  It's often difficult to find books that show platonic male relationships with any sort of physical or verbal affection and I appreciated that this one just had their relationship as part of the story rather than a plot point.  I would read an entire book just about them developing their friendship and becoming closer.

Once I got to about 60% of the way through the book the actual hunt plotline became really compelling. I really liked the slight mystery aspect that was introduced because it wasn't overblown but it was still intriguing enough that my heart was racing at multiple points throughout the last 40%.

I definitely would have never picked up a book about this subject without the context of a romance written by one of my favorite authors. I was so pulled in by this story, though, and I liked it a lot. Cash and Rae were such interesting characters, and the drama in this book along with their spark made it something I couldn't put down. I loved seeing Dom and Lucky again, too. Even a little bit of Isha to round it all out. This story was really instense and captivating, and so so different from most HEA romances I've read, but it was just as satisfying.
