This story follows the work of those who broke codes at Bletchley Park, the country estate turned top-secret facility during WW II. Three women from diverse backgrounds, Osla, Mab, and Beth forged fast friendships while doing grueling work to help save lives by cracking Nazi codes. The story flips between two timelines - 1940 during the war and 1947 leading up to the royal wedding, when the women have gone their separate ways after a tragic incident that tears them all apart. The book is gripping and tense at times, joyful and endearing at others, showing how war can bring people from all backgrounds so close in one moment, and rip them away from each other in another. Kate Quinn's writing is a masterpiece and her storytelling is exquisite. This book is quite long, but it didn't feel that way as I read it. Highly recommended.

While I am really really tired of women and the war fiction, this is certainly one of the much better ones. I'd give this 4.5 stars if I could, just not quite a five. I do love interesting history and this is certainly interesting.

I don't think I've ever read a book about Bletchley Park before. Overall I enjoyed this one! I liked each of the three main characters and their different personalities. I felt parts of the book dragged on, like the technical parts about the machines they were working with, and with most of the action happening in the last 100 or so pages I think it could have been cut down.
