Nothing to Hide is a fast-paced, action packed thriller. The characters are well-drawn, realistic and gritty. J. Mark Bertrand masterfully pieces together a well-written and intriguing mystery that keeps the pages turning at a blistering pace. To read my review in its entirety, please click HERE.

Nothing to Hide by J. Mark Bertrand is a Christian mystery from the Roland March Mystery series. This book is not the first in the series but can still be read on it's own. There are a few little things that you would have understood about the character if you read the other ones first but it did not detract from the enjoyment of the story.

Detective Roland March sets out to solve a strange murder in which the victim is dragged to a park headless and with his hands skinned and one hand pointing out to a strange location. It seems as though someone is trying to send a message. But it gets even weirder when they are asked by the FBI to stop investigating to protect someone doing undercover work in a drug cartel. Will Roland leave it alone or find out what is going on? And when he runs into people from his past will he return to old habits or finish what was started years ago?

This book reads very much like many of the modern crime shows today. It pulls you along by flashing back to things that happened in Roland's past, making you wonder why and what relevance they have, but in the end it all makes sense. This is a great book and I highly recommend it.

I was given a copy of this book to review from Bethany House Publishers in exchange for my honest opinion.

Nothing to Hide by J. Mark Bertrand is the third book in the outstanding Roland March murder mystery series. When Roland is called to investigate the murder of a man who was decapitated and de-gloved as a way of keeping his identity secret, at first he considers the involvement of the Mexican cartels. With Houston's proximity to the border, his guess wouldn't be too big of a stretch, but what he uncovers instead is a shocking mix of political machinations, secret agents and double agents, and a connection to his past Roland thought was long buried. Bertrand's writing is hard-edged police procedural mixed with the inner workings of a man tortured by his desire to right wrongs, even at great personal cost. The story is complicated, fast-paced, action-packed, and always, always intelligent. By the time Roland begins to uncover the truth, the reader can barely keep track of who is betraying who and just who the real bad guy is, and when the murderer is revealed, I was just as shocked as Roland. Bertrand excels at keeping me guessing (and as a frequent murder mystery reader, it's hard to surprise me). Some police procedural series go on far past their expiration date, but with Bertrand writing, I will always keep coming back to see what he's put March up against next.

Received from Bethany House Publishers: the third Roland March mystery. Detective Roland March has to solve yet another murder, but this time it involves the CIA, the Mexican drug cartel, and people from his military past. If you're into paranoia-infused thrillers then this is the book for you.

Also, I'm a little bit concerned that I have the same taste in music that a middle-aged man from Houston does. Leave me to wallow over that for the next few days.
