Cute romance novel about music-y girl and a hockey boy. Deals with some real world issues (trigger warning: sexual assault and physical / emotional abuse) but mainly sticks to the lighter stuff. Also has some spicy scenes.

This book was deeply fine. I didn't hate it but I didn't like it very much. Be sure to look up trigger warnings if you plan to read it as there are none on the E-Pub version. I don't know about the physical copy.

These two grew on me really quick. Not gonna lie… I did wish that Garrett would’ve stopped hooking up with other girls sooner, that was kind of annoying, but I’m a sucker for the MMC falling first.

This got steamy pretty quickly, too. 🥵
I liked their dynamic and how quickly they both shifted into being comfortable towards one another and fell into  a good rhythm. Their banter was great, too.

Moving into their traumatic pasts... It made me so sad for Hannah. She went through so much but was still social and had the drive to live her life and be happy. Asking for help overcoming your trauma and fears is huge.
Garrett had a lot of childhood trauma too but he also seemed to have overcome that and was making sure he was a decent man and nothing like what he grew up seeing. I was surprised how terrible the things that happened to them were but it added a lot to their characters and made them feel real.

I was slightly irritated at first when I thought it was going to have the classic third act breakup but honestly, I didn’t even mind this one! Garrett was NOT having it and I was so entertained by that. He’s kind of a golden retriever and it’s hard not to love him.

This was a great start to a series and I’ve enjoyed all the characters we’ve met so far so I’m excited to continue. I know this series gets a lot of hype so I’m trying to manage expectations but as far as sports romances go, I can see why this one got the hype.

3.25 stars. my first official foray into hockey romance and that honestly wasn't too bad. pretty great spice and very tropey, which works for me because i am absolutely a trope lover as long as it doesnt affect the quality of writing, and even though this was nowhere near a masterpiece, i'll look back on it fondly and i understand all the hype that i used to see about it. maybe i will tune in to that tv show at some point.

This was a really fun rom com. It does cover some heavier themes/topics but still manages to be lighthearted somehow. The plot moves quickly towards the back half and I almost feel like the author tried to add too many subplots. The heavier themes are discussed with care but are brushed over a bit. There are several plot lines that feel rushed/thrown in and wrapped up so there weren’t any loose ends. It was published in 2015 so some of the language is dated but I didn’t mind. Also, the author is British and some of her colloquialisms really shine through (being an MA native myself, I could definitely tell what didn’t fit). All that being said, I laughed out loud so hard and also felt for these characters, especially a certain scene towards the end of the book.  I really liked all the characters and their interactions! I’m looking forward to reading more in the series!

really enjoyed this book. garrett is perfect (audiobook actor garrett sounds perfect too). hannah is complex but relatable. no complaints. spicy scenes weren’t very graphic and there wasn’t a lot of them. what is there is lovely though 2.5/5.

lots of talk about rape so be prepared for that.
