I LOVED IT!!! It's so great when an influencer like Charlamagne can open up and share his struggles with mental health and bring that awareness to a community who may be sorely missing these resources. I learned a lot myself.

“Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced. —James Baldwin”

This is one of many quotes saturated throughout Charlamagne Tha God's sophomoric book, "Shook One: Anxiety Playing Tricks on Me". What I absolutely loved about this book, was CTG's unapologetic way of speaking and living his truth. He informs the reader of his issues with anxiety and discusses how having this disorder has been a challenge to him, but at times was not a challenge to him at times due to embracing it and allowing the anxiety to push through all his fears to be the successful man in media he is today.

He is open about all the mistakes he made along the way and how is dedicated to making a change now as being a better father and husband. He is candid of about every fear that would suppress him, but with therapy, spiritual growth, a healthy diet and so much more, CTG is definitely a champion of overcoming and dealing with his severe anxiety.

I truly enjoyed this book. CTG's candor is nothing to shake a stick at as he walks you through many experiences in Monck's Corner, South Carolina, his home town. One of the aspects of CTG that truly impressed me was how connected he remained to home and that despite no longer living there, he is dedicated to community that raised him. Yearly, he visits family and friends, but he also spearheads several drives throughout the year for students going back to school as well as for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

The bottom line with this book for me was that this is a black person (regardless of his gender) speaking to the world about mental health issues. We as black people tend to not believe in such as aspects connected to mental health, but the truth of the matter is is that many of us are suffering daily. I recently read about how the suicide rates amongst black people (ages range) has risen over the years and this is solely due to our view of mental health.

As someone who has sought therapy, I applaud those think and feel something may not be right and seek assistance for it. Should you be reading this review and feel as though you are in need of treatment please do so. There is nothing to be ashamed of or about.

This seconds book by Charlamagne the God was not as good as his first book. However, i did find his commentary on anxiety and mental health to be eye opening and i appreciate him shining a light on mental in the black community.

I intentionally read this book during the month of May for Mental Health Awareness Month. So many of us in the African American community suffer from anxiety and are too caught up in taboo to address it. I commend Charlamagne for speaking out on his behalf and encouraging us, especially black men, to face anxiety head on. Now some of his anxiety moments I couldn't relate but maybe because his is a little more severe than others. I enjoyed that he had a therapist to piggy back on all experiences as well to help the reader tune in to recognize their own anxiety state as well.

This was a good book. It talks about a taboo topic in the African American community, mental health. I'm glad the author went against the grain to talk about his mental health challenges and struggle and more of us in our community should strive to do more to help that.

Pretty relatable! Finished it because I have mild anxiety and it's mostly the thoughts that run rampant in my head about all the things that I have to do and complete..I have to learn to breathe and don't get overwhelmed about things out of my control!

I actually enjoyed this book especially with Dr.Ish giving the doctor perspective after each chapter.

I love Charlemagne, even though he can act like an asshole.

But only on the Breakfast Club. His writing suffers because he makes no effort to adapt his oversized personality to the page.

Some chapters were so vapid, so lightly researched, and soooo caked in cringey social media talk that they were a real struggle to get through.

This book gets the stars it does get because Charlemagne was genuine with his struggles, and because he can on occasion be funny as fuck in written word.

As someone who experiences panic attacks, I can relate with this a lot. It’s always nice when entertainers you listen to on a regular basis show another side of themselves. I’ll give it a 5 stars because it is helpful. However, with the mental state I’ve been in recently, I wish I didn’t pick this book up just yet. Reading about someone else’s anxiety and panic sometimes is a trigger for me.
