Honestly, what did I even read? It felt like I was reading two different books, neither of which were that good. First we have the big pharma intimidation plot line with some truly cringeworthy moments. The authors had all these stereotypical men in trench coats and hats just staring menacingly while whispering cryptic spy stuff like "just tell us a name and it'll all be over". And second is our typical "what's going on behind the scenes of this perfect looking couple?" plot line, which, for me was definitely better to read about but just so boring at the same time.
My main issues stem from our two POV characters.
Avery is basically a mix of Joe, from You, and Theo, from the Silent Patient. Her unorthodox method is just a justification to invade the boundaries of her clients and everyone involved in her clients' lives, going to their place of work, following them around town, etc etc. The authors definitely pitches her as the smart, "sees things more clearly than anyone else around her and needs to fix things", manipulative type character. And you see it everyso often, but then she'll immediately do something stupid like invite a random guy she used to date into her home, just because he's good with her dog. Marissa, on the otherhand, really needs to stop trying to be smart because she'll really pitched as the emotional one who has a very catered image that's very put together. And while that veneer throws Avery a loop, it's really not that impressive. What ended up really getting on my nerves would be how blatantly the characters tunnel visioned. Marissa is believable because it's a clear manifestation of her guilt and she's dumb, but if Avery if our smart girl, why would you just be so accepting of one answer? Her inner Joe would've been snooping through the trash, looking for answers.
All to say that I called the ending, as cliche as it is, it's always the husband. Who probably would've had the better POV to read. The only thing that I didn't see coming was how the big pharma plot went full circle. A very forced circle. The book could've done without that entire plotline.

I thought this book was SOOO good; I couldn't put it down! Great plots and loved the characters and I didn't find it too cheesy or predictable.

Thank you to #NetGalley for the Audiobook ARC in exchange fore an honest review
Wow just wow! This work takes you on a ride filled with red herrings, twist, and turns no one is expecting. It is told in from two perspectives with phenomenal narrators to keep us on the edge of our seats in this fun read. Characters and plot are well developed and written. I highly recommend it for the thriller/ Mystery crowd. I wont spoil the ride!

The ending was a shock to me but was amazing. I found issue with the first 85 percent of this book though because I went in expecting a thriller and it just didn't perform like I thought/hoped it would. Not to say I didn't love this book and the ending made it worth it, I was just hoping for something more thrilling, I guess.
