Tropes
🐉 12 elemental dragons
🐉 tangled retelling/fourth wing vibes
🐉 enemies to lovers
🐉found family
🐉YA Romantacy(closed door) or tent lol

About:
Scalebound is about princess Aurelia who has been locked in a tower by her family because she is half dragon with golden eyes and blood. She is then sent on a quest to find a dragon relic to save her kingdom because only scalekind can see the relic to destroy the deathlies.(Dragons of death ☠️)  while trying not to get killed for her blood… Damien our mmc is on a quest to find an sclaleborne#Aurelia… and you’ll have to read Scalebound to find out more!

Thoughts:
I think this story needs some minor editing. I just felt like sometimes something was described in-depth and then sometimes it moved on really quickly and left me wanting to know more about that event or someone’s feelings… overall a great book!!

And congratulations Logan on your debut book and success I’m excited to read more from you!!

DNF - I was so excited for this book from the marketing I saw on this book before release. However I was very disappointed and DNF’d at the 65% point. The “enemies to lovers” plot was horrible. They were never really enemies, our male character started with wanting to kill her to bring his fiancée back to life but then instantly go over his fiancée and fell in love with our main female character. I also found the book needed more editing, I felt like I was constantly rereading the same lines over just phrased slightly differently. I tried skimming the rest of the book to see if it got interesting and found I couldn’t be bothered to even skim the rest. Overall a big let down for something I was really excited for.

Princess Aurelia is a scalebound, she has dragon’s blood within her veins and the Old Religion magic flowing within her soul. But she must keep hidden because she lives in a world that has made it a priority to hunt down any existing dragons and all Scalekind. But Aurelia knows she needs to come out of hiding if she wants to save her kingdom and its people from the Deathlies. Aurelia must set out on a quest to find the last dragon egg that will tell her how to defeat these deathly magical creatures.
In a distant part of this world is Damian, a man who has recently lost his beloved to none other than a dragon. Filled with disdain and vengeance he has now devoted his life to becoming an assassin wanting nothing more than to bring his love back to life. Stumbling upon a sorcerer who promises Damian a way to grant his wish he must find and kill Aurelia; he sets out on his own journey. What will happen when the two meet? Will they both find what they are looking for or will fate intervene?
Overall rating 5/5
I loved this book with all my whole heart and soul. I was immediately immersed into this world and the characters. The way Piercey wrote in depth about the characters, and the storyline was everything! The way my heart broke many times and then was uplifted made me emotional and kept me engaged. This was a low spice, closed door romance but made up for that with the world building and fast paced action scenes. I can’t wait to see more from Piercey!

*Thank you to Logan Piercy for the ARC copy. I am freely leaving my honest review.

3.5-4⭐️

Aurelia is a scalebound princess who has been locked away in a tower for her safety. Her kingdom is at risk from a dark plague brought on by creatures called deathlies. She is tasked by her father the king to find a golden egg use the wish granted to save them all.

The way this book is marketed made me so excited to read. It was marketed as Fourth Wing, meets Powerless meets Tangled.

As much as Fourth wing as you get are dragons, dragon riding and connected power. Don’t expect a Rebecca Yarros type book this is its own story after all. I can’t speak for Powerless other than it’s Young Adult. Absolutely see the Tangled inspiration in it though.

That being said there were some parts that really drew me in and had me so enthralled in the story but the over descriptive language took me out of it. I felt more like I was told now shown. I really liked the idea of the sorcerer and would love to see more of that angle. I enjoyed the interaction between the sorcerer and Damien. I actually like how Damien started off in the book. I understood why he was the way he was. He was a very easy character to connect to.

The relationship between Damien and our FMC, Aurelia felt rushed of forced. I would have liked to see how the relationship built, the shift from enemies to lovers felt to abrupt. It was very much a she fell first type in my opinion.

I think Aurelia as a character fell flat, for a princess that was trained by her grandma to use magic she could’ve been so much more, there were times I felt she relied too much on others when she could’ve been this epic warrior princess.

The major selling point to me was the relationship between Aurelia and Belle. I truly enjoyed watching their connection grow as the book progressed I felt like that’s were the true love story was for me. Two unlikely to survive characters find their way to each other and lean on each other for survival. Belle is a gals gal type dragon, there wasn’t much I didn’t love about her.

The dragon language was something I was looking forward to and maybe it was just the formatting of the e-book that threw it off with the footnotes but I didn’t feel like this secondary language was used to its full potential. And there is absolutely no way I’m ever going to try to pronounce half of those words. Sorry Logan even the pronunciation guides had me scratching my head.

Now the story itself was really cool, I personally didn’t guess what was coming at the end which was nice, I like being surprised by a book so for that it gets a higher rating. The pacing could use some work because the consistency of it was here and there, but the foundation is there.

Overall this was a really great debut novel with more fine tuning it will be fantastic. I preordered to add it to my collection and I’m not disappointed with that purchase.

This is Logan's debut book and it does NOT disappoint! She throws you right into the action which I love in a book. This is similar to Fourth Wing with the dragons but very different in the plot.
I want a pink and gold dragon! Aurelia, the FMC, is such a joy to read about. She is a ball of sunshine but definitely has her relatable moments of worrying for the people she cares about. Damian is a fantastic morally grey book boyfriend. The things he says to Aurelia make me swoon.
Overall, I think the characters and plot are well written and not predictable.
Something really unique with this e-book is that it has footnotes in the text that you can click on for pronunciation and definition of words! I really appreciate that I don't have to flip back to the glossary or pronunciation guide.

This book started off with a young woman who has been very sheltered and over protected her whole life. She wants to explore the world and doesn’t understand why her parents have kept her hidden from the world for so long.

She quickly finds herself on a quest by herself to save her kingdom, that doesn’t know she exists. In this quest she finds herself in many ways. She grows so much as a person and starts to see why her parents hid her from the world.

This book is full of adventure, dragons, slow burn, enemies to lovers, closed door romance. And much more.

First off, I want to thank Logan for the opportunity to receive an advanced copy of her work. I also want to say how I appreciate her passion and excitement for this book.

I want to start and say that I think the way this book is being promoted will hurt it in the long run. It’s being advertised as Tangled meets Fourth Wing and I think that it is massively misleading. The Tangled inspiration is obvious, but the only thing Fourth Wing it resembles is that’s there’s dragons. I truly think it’s doing the novel a disservice to promote it this way because readers will start it expecting one type of story and get something completely different. They will be vastly disappointed that it will not come close to the comparison. I know I was. I also think it needs to be made clear that this a YA novel through and through. Comparing it to Fourth Wing and the way it’s been advertised makes it seem like a New Adult or older novel and that’s not the case. I would confidently recommend this novel as a really good introduction into fantasy/romantasy for 12-16 year olds. I think being more open and honest about what the novel is so that people actually now what they’re getting will help immensely.

I want to start out with what I did like. The world and lore felt pretty unique, which is hard to do with the abundance of fantasy novels out there. I think Logan has a lot of potential as a writer and would be interested in reading her later works once she develops her skills. I think this was a good debut novel, but it needs some polishing. I liked the overall premise and do think that if I hadn’t gone into it expecting more of the darker Fourth Wing vibes, I would’ve enjoyed it more. I was expecting a Netflix original when I should’ve been expecting a Disney Channel Original, and I really think it affected my reaction to the novel. I can enjoy a Disney Channel original when I know that’s what I’m getting, but it was jarring to get that when I’m not expecting it.

I’m giving three stars instead of two because the first 20-30% of the novel had me interested and enjoying the story. Then it became obvious that a few more rounds of editing needed to take place. There were times when something was repeated multiple times within a page or so (sometimes even on the same page). The dialogue sounded stilted in a lot of places, Character development wasn’t really there, and the romance was basically non existent. And it all felt so rushed. This could’ve easily been two novels if things had been properly fleshed out. One thing quickly led into another and into another.

The biggest issue I had was the insta love. The MMC was built up to be this morally grey assassin but he got over the traumatic event that made him turn “dark” and fell head over heels with a stranger within a couple of days of knowing her. Like 180 degree turn from  assassin to attentive lap dog within 4 days of knowing the FMC. I just couldn’t buy into this being such an epic love that it radically changed his black non existent heart so quickly. The MMC was one dimensional and really could’ve served the same purpose with a platonic relationship with the FMC. We really didn’t see romance between the two- the characters shared their devotion to each other through dialogue but that was really the only indication that there were even romantic feelings there.

My takeaways are that the novel really should be marketed differently so that readers aren’t disappointed expecting one type of story and getting another. And it really could use a delay in publishing so that it could go through a few rounds of professional editing.

Overall I enjoyed the story. I liked the world building and the magic is interesting. I enjoyed the characters and the twist at the end caught me off guard. I did feel that the story felt rushed and it was hard to follow the timeline.
I think that this is a good introduction for a new to fantasy reader. It is a clean, closed door romance so it’s appropriate for anyone.

I have been anxiously awaiting this book for over a year, following Logan’s journey even before I began a bookstagram and a reading platform. For the wait, it was totally worth it.

The beginning of the book was a slight struggle for me as I felt some sentences /details seemed to repeat themselves. It made me feel as if it was dragging at parts. The connection between Damian and Aurelia almost seemed too quick, but the way it worked out as the story continued to progress was amazing.

I truly loved the book and enjoyed it. The entire plot was so enticing, and I loved all the dragons and the special abilities. It tied in well with each other and made it so unique compared to other fantasy books.

I also loved that it was spice free. I read spice and have enjoyed it, but I was genuinely originally interested in this book due to this. I think it worked incredibly well with balancing the romance while not needing any spice. You still fell for the characters and their love.

The plot twist was jaw dropping - I was not expecting that! And it was heart breaking at the loss of such a great character. I loved the emotions this novel provoked, and I’m so grateful I got to read it!!
