Least enjoyable of the series so far, but still a decent read. Plot seemed far-fetched and subplot bordered on islamaphobic at times. Nonetheless, 3.5 stars.

The whole books bring the feeling that Lagercrantz just wanted to write another Salander book. The story jumps from now to the past with no regards to Larsson's writing and is completely boring. The end comes way too fast and lacks any conclusion whatsoever.

I liked the previous Millennium books but this one doesn't feel like part of them. A separate story, maybe, but not a Millennium book.

I decided since I devoted myself to book one, and I already owned book two and three that I was going to push on. Push on I did! I originally rated this four stars, but after much thinking I decided to rest it on an even 3.

The problem with these books will always be that they're not written by the original author. They lack punches and they don't last long with you. The moments with the characters - especially with Mikael and Lisabeth (or even by themselves) are not very good. We're supposed to follow these two, see how these two grow and adapt to the changes around them. Sadly they don't, and that's fault of the author. Again, he is playing too tame with them - not diving deeper. How can he though? As I said in my review of book #4, he is not the voice or drive behind the reason/creation of the series.

I do think, on his own, the author is good at writing popcon mystery/thriller and he should take that to Hollywood. The pacing is fast - every little detail is cut and rounded to fit the narrative - and you could envision the scenes in your mindseye.

There is a lack of Camilla in this, so don't think this is a book with Lisabeth trying to chase after her. Let us save that for the final book.

I liked the story of the billionare who may or may not be having some sort of strange midlife crisis. I won't spoil any more than that, but the story does tie into Lisabeth and Camilla's own roots. The only question is did Steig plan on going in that direction or not?

On to book three: the finale!

This book understands neither what made Blomkvist and Salander such captivating characters in the first place nor how a thriller works. It reads like a parody. Sad really.

Meh. Only one twist I didn't see coming. Mostly tough to believe. Even for this genre.
