Dear Lord...L.J. Shen can write some smut. The best kind, it makes you laugh, it makes you feel, and it makes you need a cold shower. Defy is the prequel to Vicious...which shouldn't be passed up either. However this book is a novella, so it's on the short side, which if you have read any books by L.J. Shen, you will know...IT'S NOT ENOUGH!! Gahhh, I needed more Melody and Jamie. Melody is a English Lit teacher at an exclusive prep school in Todos Santos, an exclusive rich ass community. Jamie, is her 18 year old student. What happens is not illegal, but forbidden.
This book is told entirely in Melody's point of view, would have been nice to have Jamie's as well, but lord that Mel is a hoot. I don't think I can talk this author up enough, I want everyone to read her books and enjoy them as much as I do!

A teacher, a student, a forbidden relationship.

"So... truth or dare?"
"Dare," I teased.
I dare you to look me in the eye and tell me you don't have feelings for me."

I'd originally read this as part of an anthology. I loved it then and I love this version even more now.

No toe hair. A keeper.

The story itself was everything. Well-written, fast-paced, sexy, funny, sweet (yes, I said 'sweet').
It was the perfect taboo love story. Ms. L.J. Shen managed to make this all very believable, she made her characters come to life.
Made me wish I was Mel, 'cause come on, who doesn't want a whole chunk of Jaime, he's demanding, he's rough, he's hot, he's ALPHA.

This story is the prequel to LJ's brand new series called Sinners of Saint, with (cue dreamy sigh) Vicious (I can't get over this man) being book 1. You do NOT have to read these in order but in my honest opinion, you should.

I cannot wait for the rest of the HotHoles.

P.S. If LJ is writing it, I'm reading it. This lady knows what the f__k she's doing!

I wish this had been a full length novel, because I sure would have loved a bit more development on this forbidden love story.

I loved Jaime and how, even though he was still a sexy beast, he also seemed to be the gentlest and sweetest of the HotHoles. I loved him, how he determinedly pursued Melody and especially how he saw right away it was way more than sex between them. I liked Melody and how thorn she was between different wants and needs. I'm glad she found someone to love, because her loneliness was palpable. On to the next one!

This book was definitely something and my first sign to stop reading. This book would be the premise, but I didn’t listen to that  voice in my head, telling me that it wasn’t gonna be good and I read it. In a day. It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting it to be definitely was not considered a good book under almost any standards.
