Lee Stone also known as "Stoner" doesn't believe in love or the idea of a forever romance. To her, relationships should be solely for physical attraction so no one gets hurt and nothing is lost in translation. Until her college ex-boyfriend Ben Laderman waltzes back into her life while they're both working on passing a clean energy bill to the Texas governor to support electric cars. Lee doesn't plan to lose her efforts in her work nor give into this attraction she still has for Ben. Though working so closely together and both of them having huge competitive streaks, this may be a recipe for disaster?

This was a fun and entertaining read. Nothing unpredictable, though I was intrigued to realize the author wrote thrillers (In My Dreams I Hold A Knife - Also on my TBR) and dived in the direction of writing this rom-com story. All in all, I enjoyed the pace of this one and kinda think this is an underrated beach read. Check it out if you're looking to add to your summer TBR!

first of all, if cheating is one of the things you are absolutely against in romance novels, this one’s not for you. obviously cheating should be a turn off in real life.

I liked the writing a lot; it takes guts to make your heroine a deeply unlikeable character. I hope Ashley Winstead writes more romance in the future.

This is more fantastical and idealistic politics heavy than romance heavy, and the plot focused more on Lee’s self-development and growth than on the romance, which is fair given the set-up. I got a little bit bogged down with all of the campaigning and such, but still enjoyed my time reading it. I was not squealing for them to get together or anything.

Lots of unresolved side plots — will there be more books in the same universe?

Who knew I would love a comedy about messy people in politics. I usually hate stories about cheaters but Stoner is so likable. She has a billion flaw and makes so many mistakes but I still loved her.
