I have a lot of mixed feelings about this, I was excited to read it as a vegetarian-tree-hugger from a logging family.  A lot of this book is incredibly familiar, and it is a community that is not often seen in books.  
But I also think this book has me in a book slump.  It was very slow to get going, a slog with many side characters that were hard to tell apart.  Add to this the incredibly sad theme throughout of miscarriages and deformed babies.  It is a tough read.  
I do think it was fairly well done, if the beginning could have been faster paced. The core of the storyline is solid and interesting.

I haven't been this emotionally invested in a book in quite awhile. Really strong writing. It honors the Keseyian "never give an inch" spirit of the logging community while also asking at what cost? And, who is paying?
