picked this up at the library and had zero expectations - and WOW it read so, so well. the two main characters convey SM emotion without saying a word. Every moment they experience feels so perfectly mundane, yet full of life. It’s like my favorite kind of episodic, ghibli-esque, tiny moment, quiet, type of story. The art style is also stunninggg - the soft blend of pencil and little pops of red were so soothing to the eye. Not to mention the symbolic meaning of the color among the black and white — I saw it as moments of reprieve amidst loneliness. The character designs were charming and lovely. Wow … gonna be a tough act to follow from my other library books!

Every moment is a fresh beginning.

Crushing perfectly captures the enticing excitement of making eye contact in a crowd, feeling so brutally alone around a group of friends, and the embarrassment of being an individual. There is always hope.

I love a good wordless book and this one did a good job portraying the daily lives of its two protagonists as they went about their days.
