Interesting and intriguing for a historical narrative. Could be slow at times and there were a lot of characters with unfamiliar names to follow their storylines in audio format. Good representation of cascading failure and propaganda.

It reads like a well researched book, with lots of annotations and an extensive bibliography. The style was quite dry at times but I guess it's to be expected from nonfiction. I would have loved to have more details about health effects of the catastrophe but I guess it's a subject for another book and as the author mentioned lots of documeiis missing or falsified. Overall an interesting read.

I have never even considered what happens in a nuclear reactor nor had I thought much about Soviet politics or the Chernobyl disaster and | feel like | have taken a well-taught graduate level course on all of those things now. This book was riveting. I listened to quite a bit of it - the audio had a wonderful narrator (Jacques Roy)

If you like apocalyptic science fiction, you will like this.
Higginbotham puts so much humanity in the story of atomic disaster and political maneuvering giving this beefy nonfiction intense plot points to pull you through the story.

The portions of the book covering the initial days of the disaster were the best part of the book.

Following that period the book slowed down for me quite a bit.

No matter how much I learn about Chernobyl, there is always more to discover. The audiobook narrator did a wonderful job and it was incredibly interesting to listen to.
