A good book. I learned about queerness in Nigeria, which I didn't know anything about before. Very, very sad though.

WOW. This is an incredible book and an incredible debut in one. My local library happened to get a copy of this for its release day, and I'm so glad they did, or I would have missed out on something special. The moment I finished--which took about a day; this book is brutal, but also a snappy and engaging read--I bought a personal copy. It does what it says on the tin in the best way possible: this book is heartbreaking, culturally rich, and built around characters who feel like real people. And Then He Sang a Lullaby is one of those impassioned novels that will stick with me, and I'm looking forward to seeing what else the author will do. My only real complaint was that the ending felt as if it needed one or two more paragraphs, but it was still satisfying.
