Ivy Gamble is a hard drinking PI with a chip on her shoulder. That chip, her estranged twin sister who happens to be a witch, well a Mage strictly speaking and a teacher at a prestigious school of magic.
When there is a murder at the school Ivy is asked to investigate thrusting the sisters into each others lives for the first time in years.
I’m not big on murder mysteries but I finished this book in one day. It was fun, and funny, with some moments that really made me think. I imagine this is what it would be like if Veronica Mars and Hermione Granger were sisters. A star knocked off for a bit of repetitiveness in the writting, how many times can a reader be reminded that Ivy is sad she isn’t magical while her twin is? We get it, move on!

I signed up for a thriller book filled with magic. Instead, I was entangled by a complex but captivating plot by two sisters in need of understatement between each other.
Ivy is such a relatable character she makes the story even more real. She makes us see magic as mysterious and complex as science or relationships are. Even more, you'll keep feeling like a fish out of the water through the book.
I didn't get the thriller I was looking for, but I ended it with nothing but a marvelous feeling of love, care, and growth.
