I again found myself in a love-hate relationship with this author's work. While the overall book held my interest, I couldn't quite warm up to the epilogue, and the final three chapters left me somewhat dissatisfied.

This MMMM romance, with a dash of MMMMFF, presented an interesting dynamic. Still, I wished for more explicit content warnings, especially regarding the internal and on-screen homophobia that played a significant role in the narrative. It would have been helpful to know about these aspects beforehand.

Despite these drawbacks, the story's merits and the intricate relationships explored were intriguing. The author's ability to craft complex character dynamics is evident, even though certain elements left me wanting more clarity.

This reimagining of Dracula is more traditional than some of the others in this series, and not quite as dark. I enjoyed it. It's been many years since I've read the original. Unfortunately for me, I've seen the movie several times over the years and kept seeing Keanu and other actors as the book characters.

Holy shit I love this

CW: blood, violence, murder, mentions of past sex work, past abuse, internalised homophobia, external homophobia

Amazing. Deliciously erotic. Angsty and self-discovering.

The gay retelling of Dracula that we deserve.

Unexpected reincarnation trope but I am pleased with how it was done.

I thought Dracula would have Jonathan as his final (3rd) bride but apparently he just wants Jonathan as his bride/husband, and the 2 other "brides" are in love with each other, happily so, and will share if they feel like it. I feel like that turned out really well.

And Renfield. Oh sweet, poor, unhinged Renfield. He got the escape and unconditional love he deserved too.

They found an unexpected ally towards the end.

And, the sapphics get some well-deserved love too! (Yes, you know what that means! At least, those of you who know the original story of Dracula already lol.)

Featuring thrilling chases through foggy Victorian London streets, vampire found family feels as they explore the nightlife of the modern world, the creepy horrors of Victorian mental hospitals, 19th century medical bullshit, a bit of exhibitionism, and the angsty yet emotional and necessary path of self-acceptance from closeted frightened human to liberated happy vampire.

Disappointed
No feeling of horror or dark elements
The sidecharacters were all more interesting than the main couple
The plot was rather anticlimactic

Buddy read with Anne

Not a huge fan of this story. I love retellings of classic stories especially when they add Sapphic or Achillian elements to it. Jonathan to me was wishy-washy and didn't have much personality.

Dracula is one of my favorite classics so I was really excited to start this book and thankfully I wasn’t disappointed!
The book is beautifully written. My only problem is that the book is not really dark or ‘spooky’ in the sense that dracula is usually associated with I guess.
I was only expecting dark themes because it is the main theme of the series. I don’t mind though because I usually enjoy found families and this one did not disappoint.
