There is something incredibly harrowing about reading the account of Anna’s kidnapping and subsequent trafficking experiences. The way she pieces her story together very specifically for an audience that she knows could not POSSIBLY fathom that this could happen to anyone, is so visceral that every page is bound to make you feel sick. It is not a story that should be taken lightly and it is an incredibly important one. As a social worker who has seen the downsides and dangers of criminalizing sex workers, it is equally impactful to read Anna’s POV when she speaks about the law passed in Northern Ireland. How she cannot possibly fathom that the women who choose to do sex work could not account for the thousand of women who are kidnapped and forced to do the work without consent. It leaves one with much to think about and most importantly it is an account that will stay with me for a very long time. Thank you, Anna, for sharing your story.

I truly shocking story. So sad that things like this are happening in the world we live in. Really opens your eyes to what is going on around you. Think it should be made compulsory reading for all men.

It’s hard to give this book a star rating because I am of two minds. On one hand, what she went through was clearly a horrific experience worth discussing and putting out into the world. Aside from feeling a bit uncomfortable with her stance on sex workers who are consensually involved in sex work and their protections, the content is what pulled me through. On the other hand, the writing - especially considering a ghost writer was involved and presumably at least one editor was involved - was a struggle. It ranged from stilted to hard to follow, and with more care on the ghostwriter’s part and/or a heavier editing hand could’ve easily made it an easier, clearer reading experience without losing Anna’s voice.

Distressing, shocking but also important story. You're feeling sorry and proud at the same time for Anna while reading this book.

I’ve chosen not to rate this book. How can I rate someone’s life - especially when that life is plagued with fear and violence?

A shocking read.
