Ah-hah, this one was great fun. Being familiar with Alice in Wonderland, I was delighted by all the visual references to that book (the walrus and the carpenter at school! The drunken ruckus at the palace! The CAT!) but I think a reader unfamiliar with that book would still enjoy all the wonderfully detailed zany illustrations. I was really reminded of those books illustrated by Steven Kellog (Ralph and the sea monster, etc), which were full of so many small stories and fun things that I would read them forward and backwards so I didn’t miss anything.

Also, the page of 100 carrot recipes was delightful, delicious, and hilarious.

So gorgeous, so funny, so full of visual jokes, multi-layered jokes, warmth, and above all, splendid detail. This is a buy, not a borrow.

Don't pick up this book expecting to see Alice in Wonderland. All you will see of her is her foot. She is not important to the story.

This is the outtake from the diary of the wife of White Rabbit, from the Alice in Wonderland stories.

But, if could have been any wife, writing about how her husband does not pay attention to her, and the kids are driving her crazy. Other than the Cheshire Cat, this could take place anywhere, any time.

I would rate this a two, because of that, but the pictures are detailed, and fun to explore, so it gained one extra star for that alone.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

I received an advanced copy of this from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

When I saw that this was based on Alice in Wonderland, I KNEW I had to try it out. It's the tale of the White Rabbit's wife, his many children, and their many woes. It's short and quick witted, but tells a pretty accurate tale of being a housewife (I've been one for months, and it's pretty spot on), but with the added intensity of living in Wonderland!

The illustrations were DELIGHTFUL, and the story was heart warming. The PDF was off, but I'm excited to see what this would look like in print. Again, the illustrations were so beautiful.

I found this amusing. Mrs. White Rabbit takes up her diary after a long hiatus and we find out she's been pretty busy while her husband's been bustling around, late for everything and neglectful of his wife. But not so neglectful that she doesn't have a houseful of kids... Mrs. White Rabbit tends to fall into traditional wifely roles, but she clearly feels hemmed in by the way her life has gone. Will she find a way to become the writer she's always dreamed of? Her life is full of inspiration if she can only see it.

An interesting poke at traditional gender roles within the loose context of a familiar story.
