My kids and I have listened to the first three Wayside School books multiple times. It is so amazing to me that this book was written 40 years after the first. The author's note at the beginning of this audiobook made me so happy. In many ways, it has the same feel as the previous three books and it was just awesome to revisit all the kids in Mrs. Jewl's class.

Wayside School Beneath the Cloud of Doom by Louis Sachar was such a throwback. I loved the Wayside School books as a kid, and I didn't even know there was a fourth in the series until my sister-in-law posted about it. To be honest, I probably should have re-read the others to reconnect with the source material, and I would recommend this for maximum enjoyment. However, it was still the same ol' Wayside shenanigans. It was ridiculousness and quirkiness, and it's just what made me as a kid love this series.

It was so wonderful to be back at Wayside!
I read this to my nieces, and one declared she liked this one even better than the first book in the series (her favorite).
I loved all the references to the previous books: goozack, Mrs. Gorf, Miss Zarves, even Louis the yard teacher saying that he had some money because he'd written a few books about Wayside School.
We all hope he writes a few more!

I loved Wayside School as a kid. I'm not sure if it was less wacky for this edition or I am remembering the originals wrong but I did not have the zany antics I was hoping for.
That being said it is a sweet book about an odd and unusual school. The characters are fun. Each chapter is mostly about a different character keeping it fresh. Overall it's a good read. I think children today will get a kick out of Wayside School.
