I found Amber to be completely insufferable.
Spoiler
Just no redeeming qualities and motivated by nothing more than basically hating rich privileged people? Didn't feel super believable to me. Which, I guess things don't always have to be believable, so maybe relatable is the more correct word. She felt like a cartoon character of a villain almost. I did not enjoy being in her brain for the majority of the book. The reveal of her husband being a monster was interesting, but shadowed by the inclusion of sexual assault. And again, similar to Amber, it sort of felt out of place and random. More for the shock value than the plot. I think there could be other/better ways to showcase this abusive dynamic. I don't know, just wasn't totally for me I suppose.
That being said, it did keep me interested the whole time, curious to see where the story was going and what would happen next. So I do give it some props for that.

Daphne doesn't believe in abortion and is all like "god will give me whatever gender baby he wants/he knows what's right, etc." (and also being pro-abortion and pro-choice does not mean forcing someone to have an abortion and I feel like this was not made very clear in here, but this was pre- overturning of Roe v Wade so probably wasn't as topical and clarity wasn't as critical at the point of writing/publication) and then there's another bit later on that sort of equated religion with morality and that was a no for me.Graphic: Violence, Abortion, Rape, Domestic abuse, Misogyny, Sexual violence, and Gun violence

I think around page 130-150 is when my intrigue started to grow so when we got Daphne's POV I was a bit taken a back. But I trusted the process and I'm so glad I did because once we got Daphne's chapter I was HOOKED! I was eating this book up and it became soooo good! I loved it! Jackson's ending was a bit anticlimactic for me, but I'm pretty content with everything else. If you don't mind a slow burn type of book then I totally recommend this book. (Very triggering topics though, so please be careful).
