I wanted more about healing attachment wounds and helping with dissociative episodes but instead got a lot more about mindfulness and meditation than I bargained for. There are definitely some good tools that I can use but knocking off a few stars as I don’t feel like this is truly what I anticipated from the book and isn’t going to get me to fixing attachment wounds and ‘becoming securely embodied.’

My new therapist recommended this to me, and I would recommend it to anyone who feels unsafe in their body/in the present moment. It gave me a lot of tools that genuinely make me feel more prepared to handle life/mental health in a healthier way.

This book has some of the most transformatively concrete skills I’ve seen for healing in trauma, but this book could have used a good editor and graphic designer to make the illustrations and content more intelligible. The seeds here are amazing and this even in its somewhat unpolished form is worthwhile read for anyone with trauma investing in their own healing and a must read for anyone working as a healer.

This a self help book. It's more like a guide that one picks up when need be. Integrate the exercises and then come back for more.

I've read extensively on trauma, therefore I could mostly piece together what the author was trying to say, if you are a newcomer to trauma related texts, do not bother as this book will confuse and mystify you.

There is no rhythm or flow, it jumps from topic to unrelated topic with no transition. It really needs an editor to give it a structure and format that makes sense.

I also tired of the 'quotes' from the authors clients about what a great therapist she is.

"Shame in its intensity is an expression of protest. [...] Inherent in it is a need. [...] How can you turn toward something more nourishing than the shame, the suffering you are in?"
